Well helloooooooooo, Sandman.

Thank you thank you Rob Ashe Jr., who edited the rather brilliant cold open from the first episode of Conan O’Brien's brief run of The Tonight Show and uploaded it for us all to enjoy again.

Seriously, this still makes me smile so much my cheeks hurt.

What we are actually seeing now in terms of the options for governance is not just blue states and red states, but rather blue states, and then red states, and then Oklahoma. Oklahoma is like, turning it up to 11. Oklahoma is something else.

If Oklahoma gets any redder it’s going to start blistering and peeling. Oklahoma is so red it redefines the realm of possible in state governance.

Tonight, Oklahoma’s republican governor Mary Fallin signed a new law which makes you pay a special fee. It will essentially fine people for the crime of using solar power. If you want to use the sun for electricity instead of your local coal-fired power plant, the redder than red state Oklahoma government has figured out a way to make you pay for that crime.

The sun tax became law in Oklahoma last night.

Not OK, Oklahoma. SO NOT OK.

In San Pedro, California. There is this place called sunken city. Several decades ago, there was a landslide causing all the houses on the cliff to fall into the ocean. Now what’s left are ruins of roads, broken pipes, and beautiful graffiti art. Artists from the area have been entering this unknown place for years. Every inch of the ruins is covered in graffiti. If you love street art, this is the place for you. This place will give you the closest look at what a post apocalyptic world may look like.

I grew up in San Pedro, and for a time we lived two blocks from Pt. Fermin park and the Sunken City. It was my favorite “forbidden” place to play. (We knew better than to get near the cliff edge, but it still made our parents edgy.)

Fun fact: in this same area is where Chinatown was filmed where Jake Gittes tails Hollis Mulwray. (Robert Towne is a fellow Pedro-ite.)

Celebrate Dyngus Day with everyone’s favorite Lutonian polka band, The Shmenge Brothers:

-“And how about these new wave clothes that we’re wearing? Aren’t they something?”
-“Complete with boots and everything. You know all the young people today are dressed like this. And that’s what this whole show is about—new wave. You know, the new wave music industry is a billion dollar industry, and Stan and I would like to get a little piece of that.”
